Tinubu, Doro honoured for efforts in poverty reduction and humanitarian services — OJF Global

The Ologodidan Jezi Foundation (OJF Global) yesterday honoured President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mr Bernard Mohammed Doro, at the second edition of its Food Drive initiative. The event, held at Eagles Square, Abuja, was part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to reduce poverty and expand humanitarian services across Nigeria.

Mr Tunde Doherty, Chairman of the UK Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC UK), represented the minister at the event. He acknowledged the foundation’s role in promoting humanitarian initiatives nationwide and commended the organisers for their sustained efforts to alleviate poverty.

Doherty urged participants to support the Tinubu administration, noting that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under Mr Doro would continue to back programs aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

He said, “I want to express my appreciation to the organisers of this event. The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of President Bola Tinubu, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to reduce poverty across the country. I want to assure you all that President Tinubu will continue to support ideas and initiatives that positively impact the lives of Nigerians.”

Doherty also explained that the awards presented to the President reflect the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.

Meanwhile, Dr Rachael Ojuade, Founder of OJF Global and its Global Diplomatic Peace Chairperson, said that meaningful humanitarian service has been a hallmark of the Tinubu administration. She noted that the second edition of the Food Drive was intended to foster stronger relationships between the foundation and the government to advance its mission.

Describing Mr Doherty as a “father figure,” Dr Ojuade highlighted his contributions to ensuring the foundation achieves its goals as a non-governmental organisation.

She said, “We are pleased to honour President Bola Tinubu in recognition of the administration’s support for humanitarian initiatives, and we will continue to sustain the ideology of the organisation.”

‘Renewed Hope Agenda is alive’

‎Three members of the executive of the United Kingdom Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC UK) have inspected part of the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road.

The inspection formed part of their effort to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even as the electronic registration of APC members is ongoing across Nigeria.

‎The publicity secretary of the APC UK Chapter, Tunde Ajisola, commended President Tinubu for translating the long-held vision into reality, saying he was impressed with the level of progress recorded so far on the project.

‎“This enduring vision reminds me of 1959 when the M1 was constructed in the UK. People from all over the world came to see the beautiful road and expressed delight.

‎“This project takes us back to that era because the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road is an economic corridor that will run across the southern states of this country, with a planned linkage to the Sokoto–Badagry corridor as well.

‎“For me, it is money well spent, and we say a very big thank you to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making us proud with this project,” he said.

‎In his remarks, the Deputy Secretary of the APC UK Chapter, Hon. Ayokunle Agunbiade, said he was glad to be part of the team that carried out the inspection.

‎He described the road as a testament to the vision of a President who is ready to unify the country.

According to him, the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road is a milestone achievement that will enhance economic integration and infrastructural development across the southern coastline.

‎“This is a massive project that will bring synergy and closeness among the southern states. It will stimulate economic integration and create investment opportunities for Nigeria and Nigerians.

‎“With this achievement, I urge members of the APC to continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continuity and the full realisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria,” he said.

‎Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman (South) of the APC UK Chapter, Hon. Olumuyiwa Adesua, explained that the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road had become a reality because of the courage of President Tinubu.

‎He noted that history shows the implementation of the coastal road had remained on paper for years, with successive administrations lacking the political will to execute it until the advent of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎“Going through the road, I see a project that will connect the economy of southern Nigeria to the rest of the West African coast.

‎“The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road is not just about Nigeria because from here one can travel to the Republic of Benin or Togo, which is massive.

‎“The economic front of the Nigerian economy is being opened through this road, and I believe many Nigerians will begin to think ahead about how to create businesses along this corridor and how to engage Nigerian youth.

‎“We are using Nigeria’s money to execute this project, and Nigerians are actively engaged in the work.

‎“I have worked in the transport sector in the UK for years, and I know that the transport sector is one of the biggest employers of labour, and this is also evident here.

‎“There is a need for the National Assembly to enact legislation for the maintenance of projects like this, as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road is not only for our generation but also for generations yet unborn,” he stated.

Basiru Did Nothing Wrong: Defending Party Discipline Is Not a Crime

The recent outbursts and commentaries surrounding the exchange between the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru (Alubarika), and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, are both unnecessary and misplaced.

At the heart of the matter is a simple fact: Dr Ajibola Basiru acted within his constitutional duty as National Secretary of the APC. Nothing more. Nothing less.

When the Deputy National Chairman (South-South) publicly referred to a sitting governor as a “so-called governor,” it was clearly inappropriate and avoidable. Dr Basiru’s intervention was a responsible internal correction directed at a fellow member of the National Working Committee. That is how serious political parties maintain discipline, order, and credibility.

What is baffling is how this routine act of Party management has provoked such agitation from Barrister Wike, a former two-term PDP Governor who is not a member of the APC leadership structure. That a measured internal clarification would trigger public attacks and baseless accusations against the National Secretary raises serious questions.

Dr Ajibola Basiru is not an obscure figure. He is a respected lawyer, a former Senator of the Federal Republic, and the National Secretary of Africa’s largest political Party. Attempts to diminish his office or question his authority only betray a misunderstanding of the APC’s institutional framework.

If Barrister Wike harbours grievances, they should be addressed with decorum and restraint. More importantly, he owes the National Secretary of the APC an unreserved apology for his unwarranted remarks and should immediately desist from spreading misinformation.

Should Barrister Wike desire to join the APC, the Party’s doors remain open—but the process is straightforward and non-negotiable. He must formally register at his ward, respect Party structures, and acknowledge the authority of its leadership.

In the APC, discipline is not optional, leadership is not personal, and respect is reciprocal. Dr Ajibola Basiru has not erred; instead, he has upheld the values and order that distinguish a serious political organisation.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) UK Chapter and Chairman of the APC Committee of Diaspora Chairmen (CDC), Hon. Tunde Doherty, has described 2025 as a landmark year for the APC Diaspora and unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2026 ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hon. Doherty made this known in his New Year Broadcast to APC Diaspora members worldwide, extending warm greetings to leaders and members across the United Kingdom, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and other regions.

He commended Diaspora members for their loyalty, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the Party’s growth, noting that their collective efforts have significantly strengthened the voice and relevance of the APC Diaspora in Nigeria’s national political landscape.

Landmark Achievements in 2025

Reflecting on the outgoing year, Hon. Doherty highlighted several key milestones recorded by the APC Diaspora in 2025, including:

Successful hosting of high-impact programmes across the UK, France, and the United States
Inauguration of the APC France Executive Committee, expanding the Party’s global organisational footprint.

Sustained advocacy for Diaspora Voting through engagements with the National Assembly
Official visits by members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to the UK and France
A successful APC Diaspora sideline programme hosted by the USA Chapter during UNGA 2025
Ministerial and other high-level national appointments of Diaspora members.

Formal invitation of the APC Diaspora to attend National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings as Observers for the first time. Appointment of Diaspora leaders into strategic Party and national roles
Inclusion of Diaspora representatives in key Party committees and councils

According to him, these achievements underscore growing trust, recognition, and confidence in the Diaspora under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Strategic Focus for 2026

Looking ahead, Hon. Doherty described 2026 as a critical year of consolidation and mobilisation as the Party prepares for the 2027 general elections. He outlined priority focus areas for the year, which include:

Organisation of rallies to showcase the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda and kickstart 2027 campaign projects. Strengthening media and communications capacity to counter misinformation and deepen grassroots engagement.

Launch of a Unified APC Diaspora Identity Card
Re-establishment of inactive chapters and onboarding of new ones in line with Party constitutional provisions. Opening of a Diaspora Consultation Office in London to enhance member access and support. Regular general meetings and structured engagement with emeritus leaders and stakeholders.

Enforcement of annual membership dues to strengthen operational capacity
Clear and consistent communication of the CDC mandate across chapters
Increased virtual engagements with Party leaders and national stakeholders
Stronger unity and collaboration among all Diaspora chapters
Pursuit of member-focused opportunities in housing, investment, and empowerment
Hosting of Diaspora Connect Events in March 2026, followed by physical engagements in France and Ghana later in the year

Call for APC E-Registration

Hon. Doherty also urged all APC Diaspora members to complete the APC E-Registration, as directed by the Presidency and the Party’s National Headquarters, stressing that it is essential for proper integration into the Party’s central database and access to future opportunities and benefits.

Reaffirming his commitment to Diaspora engagement, the APC CDC Chairman assured members of continuous interaction with the National Headquarters and relevant stakeholders to secure meaningful recognition and benefits for APC Diaspora members globally.

He concluded by calling for unity, purpose, and renewed determination as the Party moves forward, wishing all members a prosperous 2026.
