Nigeria on the Rise:

APC UK Chairman Tunde Doherty Highlights Renewed Hope Agenda at UNGA

The past week has been eventful for Hon. Tunde Doherty, Chairman of APC UK and the APC Committee of Diaspora Chairmen (APC-CDC), at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2025, where His Excellency Vice President Kashim Shettima ably represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the UNGA, Hon. Tunde Doherty, alongside other APC diaspora leaders, engaged with numerous Nigerian leaders across several side events to promote Nigeria’s economic reforms and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the global stage.

He also joined the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, at the High-Profile Summit on Economy, Trade, Investment and Technology Incubation, where he represented the Director General of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Engineer KK Raji.

In another key engagement, Hon. Doherty participated alongside the Governor of Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago, and the Senator Representing Niger East in the National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Sanni, as they worked to put Niger State on the world stage.
While in the United States, Hon. Doherty also met with APC stakeholders in Maryland, where he emphasised the importance of unity, loyalty to party values, and continued support for the Tinubu-led administration.

He reminded attendees that they are ambassadors of Nigeria and urged them to project the nation’s positive image in all their endeavours.

Reflecting on the week’s activities, Hon. Doherty described UNGA 2025 as a superb outing for Nigeria, noting that “President Tinubu’s reforms speak louder for the country — and Nigeria is definitely on the rise again.”

Your Participation Will Make Election Rigging Impossible” – Dr. Aminat Olawunmi Ige

Your Participation Will Make Election Rigging Impossible” – Dr. Aminat Olawunmi Ige

At the APC UK Autumn General Meeting, Dr. Aminat Olawunmi Ige, an erudite scholar and mathematician, delivered a powerful message on the importance of voter participation.

In her remarks, she urged members to encourage their family and friends back home to register, obtain their voter’s card, and take part fully in the electoral process, reminding everyone that “your votes count.”

Drawing from her background as a mathematics lecturer, Dr. Ige emphasised that it is difficult to rig an election where citizens actively participate, because in the end, “numbers are very important.”

Her call serves as a reminder that active voter engagement remains the strongest safeguard of democracy.

A Beautiful Night of Merriment and Reflection

The APC UK Chapter hosted a warm and memorable dinner reception in honour of the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of our great party, Hon. Durosimi Meseko, and his lovely wife on Sunday night at Planet 224 Lounge in Bromley, London, UK.

The evening brought together party members, friends, and community stakeholders in a relaxed atmosphere, allowing us to reflect on Nigeria’s Democracy Day and take stock of the midterm achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was both a moment of celebration and introspection.

Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, joyful dancing, and heartfelt conversations. A brief interview was also granted by Hon. Durosimi Meseko who was also recently appointed as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI). where he shared encouraging insights about his role during the June 12 struggles and his hope of a bigger electoral win for President Tinubu in the coming 2027 General Elections.

It was indeed a joyful evening, and we left with renewed faith in the leadership of President Tinubu, stronger bonds within the APC family, and a collective prayer for continued progress for Nigeria, Nigerians, and our great party.

Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru’s Historic Visit to the UK

A Year Ago Today: Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru’s Historic Visit to the UK

On this day, exactly one year ago, Distinguished Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), undertook a historic visit to the United Kingdom. This momentous occasion marked a decisive step towards unity, as he successfully merged the representatives of APC in the UK, achieving an incredible feat that laid the foundation for a stronger and more cohesive chapter in the diaspora. An Interim Committee was set up on the day with Hon. Tunde Doherty as its Chairman and Hon. Joseph Adebola as the Secretary alongside 20 other members without portfolio.

The visit underscored the APC leadership’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and collaboration across borders. Senator Basiru’s intervention not only brought clarity to the party’s structure in the UK but also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring that every member, regardless of location, has a voice in shaping its future.

It was not merely an administrative milestone but a pivotal moment that showcased the strength of the APC as a party capable of overcoming challenges through strategic leadership and shared goals. Senator Basiru’s efforts paved the way for the eventual elective congress that followed, further solidifying the APC UK Chapter’s place in the larger party structure.

As the APC UK Chapter moves forward, it remains committed to strengthening the party’s presence in the diaspora and contributing to Nigeria’s development. With a focus on engaging with the diaspora community, building strategic alliances, and upholding democratic values, the chapter under Hon. Doherty’s leadership is poised to achieve even greater milestones.

Hon. Ayokunle Agunbiade writes from London United Kingdom.
